Sky-Watcher EQ6-R Pro Overview
Sky-Watcher set out to improve upon their already popular best seller, the EQ6 mount. The result is a mount that is even sturdier, quieter and more versatile. If you’re looking for a computerized German EQ mount that can be used with a variety of sizes and brands of OTAs and has the latest technology for successful imaging, then this mount has you covered.
Stability is number one when considering a mount for visual or imaging use. The EQ6-R Pro starts with all-metal, precision-crafted mount components set atop rugged 2-inch stainless steel tripod supports. A central stability bar allows you to cinch in place a metal (no plastic here!) accessory tray that acts as a spreader device, locking in the solid legs and diminishing vibration. Spiked feet make the mount sure-footed on any terrain. The 44-pound payload is enough for any Sky-Watcher OTA, along with a camera and imaging gear. Trust this mount to keep the image still in the eyepiece.
Gone are the days of worrying about waking your neighbor with the coffee-grinder whine of your right-ascension motor. This mount is whisper-quiet when slewing. A large 180 tooth worm gear provides high precision tracking and is a major factor in the mount’s payload capacity. The use of 64 microsteps driven stepper motors and a belt-drive system offer high torque, precision movement with very little sound.
SynScan computerized hand controller
With an internal database of over 42,000 astronomical objects, your family will be set for a lifetime of unconstrained navigation of the universe. At the press of a button, take a tour of the celestial marvels above the horizon. An RS-232 port allows you to connect the hand-controller to your computer (cable available at request) and make use of your favorite planetarium software if desired.
This mount is designed with the most discerning astrophotographer in mind. Highly selectable guiding speeds and an ST4 autoguider interface are key to stable imaging. On top of that, the SynScan hand controller has built-in Periodic Error Control training that can be configured while in use! There is also a Snap port for programmable DSLR exposures.
Easy polar alignment
Unlike many EQ mounts in its class, the EQ6-R Pro comes with an internal illuminated polar scope that features a circular grid reticle. Still, even if Polaris is not visible, the mount can be aligned using the SynScan controller, using one of the stars listed and adjusting the latitude adjustment to center it in the eyepiece.
Compatible with most OTAs
The EQ Pro utilizes a saddle that can accept both V and D style mounting plates, meaning that you have the flexibility to use whatever OTAs you currently have or may have in the future.
